Servicing Old Buildings in Seattle
Living in an old building can be extremely rewarding. Whether you rent an apartment on Capitol Hill, own a condo in Central District, or have a home anywhere in Seattle there is a lot of charm to be had in living in an old building. However, these old buildings often times have old plumbing buried in their walls and crawlspaces. Maintaining old buildings is extremely important, especially when it comes to plumbing.
The age of a building can often show itself in rusted galvanized pipes. Galvanized pipes used to be used for both water and drain lines. Galvanized water lines rust closed over time, often times drastically reducing water pressure. Users will usually see this first on the hot side with the cold water lines a few years behind. In galvanized drains, the pipes are much bigger so the rust itself doesn’t cause problems but it gives anything that goes down the drain a much greater chance of getting caught up.
Preventative maintenance can also go a long way. If your drain lines are in good health, using hydro jetting (functionally a pressure washer inside your pipes) can blast some of that debris and build up downstream and out of your drain lines.
I spend a lot of time in old buildings clearing drain lines and replacing old pipes. If you are experiencing slow drains, gurgling drains, or poor water pressure, get in touch with me and we’ll see what I can do.
